Areas and Iterations

Organizing the areas and iterations on your Microsoft Team Foundation Server is important to establish structured workflow. TeamLook allows you to maintain the areas and iterations of your server from within Microsoft Office Outlook 2010. Click on the "Areas and Iterations" button on the TeamLook tab of the ribbon bar.

The Areas and Iterations button, found in the TeamLook ribbon bar.

This opens a window that organizes area and iteration in a convenient tree.

The Areas and Iterations window, here you can organize your project data in a convienent tree.

Select your desired server and project from the drop-down menus at the top of the window. The Area tab will be open as a default. To modify the iteration, click on the Iteration tab to bring it to the front. Each tree is modified in the same way: six simple buttons in a toolbar above the tree. The first button, "Add a child node," creates a new node as a child of the node you have highlighted in the tree. Give it a descriptive name and hit enter. The red X, "Delete node," removes the highlighted node from the tree. The arrows up and down move a node up and down amongst its siblings, but will never move a node out from under its parent. The arrows left and right move a highlighted node out (further left) to become a sibling of its parent, or in (further right) to become a child of its sibling. When you have created and adjusted trees to delineate area and iteration, click close to exit and save your changes.
