Creating Work Items from an Existing Work Item

TeamLook provides for more efficient work item creation by giving you the ability to create a new work item from an existing work item. If you need to create a work item that is very similar to one that you have already created you can copy that item. That way you start out with a work item that is already filled out rather than starting from scratch. Open the existing work item; or simply save, but do not close the work item if you have just completed it and now need to create a similar item. Click on the "Copy Work Item" button in the upper-right of the window.

The Copy Work Item Button is found in the Work Item form's toolbar.

An identical, pre-populated window will open on top of the previous work item. It is distinct, however, in that the window will be labeled "(New)" in the upper-left corner rather than labeled with a work item number.

A new copy of a work item will be designated (New) in the window's title.

If you need to create a work item that is related to an existing item, you can create a new work item, publish it, and then forge the link as described in the previous section. However, TeamLook provides for a more efficient method. Open the existing work item; or simply save, but do not close the work item if you have just completed it and now need to create a linked item. Click on the "Create Related" button in the upper-right of the window.

The Create Related button is found in the Work Item form's toolbar.

Then choose the link type, choose the new work item type, title the new work item, add any necessary comments, and click ok.

The Add New Linked Item to Task window allows you to establish the type of link you are forging, the type and name of the new work item, and any comments.

You will now have a form to create the new work item with the link already established.
