Creating Work Items
One of the most powerful tools that TeamLook gives you is the ability to create
work items in a number of different ways. TeamLook allows you to designate tasks
and assign responsibility as needs arise without deviating from your Microsoft Office
Outlook 2010 workflow.
This is the most basic way to create a work item with TeamLook. In taking you through
the steps required to create a new work item in this manner, we will also introduce
you to several elements of work item functionality in TeamLook. These elements will
hold true for all work items, whether created from the ribbon bar or not. These
include an introduction to the work item form,
how to attach files to a work
item, how to forge links between
related work items, and how to publish
a work item to the server once you have finished with its creation.
TeamLook gives you the tools to copy work items and to create related work items.
This makes creating new work items that are similar to old ones much more efficient.
Integrating the steps of creating a work item and forging a link between items will
also save you time and effort.
If you are going to create many similar work items, TeamLook give you the ability
to create a work item template that will streamline this process. This way you can
specify certain fields in the work item for only once, instead of typing the same
information over and over.
Oftentimes you receive an email that prompts the creation of a new work item. TeamLook
integrates so seamlessly with Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 that this process is
almost effortless. Pertinent information from the email is copied directly into
the work item form. Also, this process works not only for emails in your inbox,
but also for events on your calendar and tasks on your to-do list.
