Linking Related Work Items

TeamLook also enables you to establish connections between work items in the form of links. If you drag a work item into another's attachments field, you will be prompted to create a link between the two work items. You can also accomplish this by clicking the "Link to" button designated by a chain and a green plus sign in the Links tab or by right-clicking in the empty links field and selecting "Link to."

To forge a new link between work items, open the All Links tab in the work item form and either click the Link to button or right-click on the blank field and select link to.

The default link type is "Related," but you may choose from many different connection types by editing the link. You may edit a link by highlighting the linked work item in the links field and clicking the edit link button: designated by a sheet of paper, chain, and pencil icon; or by right-clicking on the linked work item and selecting "Edit Link..." You may delete links in the same manner. The delete button is designated by a sheet of paper, chain, and red X icon. You may open a linked item by highlighting it and clicking the sheet of paper and arrow icon, by right-clicking on the work item and selecting "Open Linked Item," or by double-clicking on the linked work item.

You can access the open, edit, and delete link tools in either the All Links tab's toolbar or by right-clicking on the link.

Linking work items provides a functional, visual connection between dependent elements in a project. By adding links to a work item, you inform an individual how their assignment fits into a greater whole. Also, they may easily reference related work items because they are all connected.
