Organizing and Searching Work Items
TeamLook allows you to create and edit work items in a number of ingenious ways,
but that would all be irrelevant without a system to manage and search these items.
TeamLook provides several systems, of varying power and complexity, to accomplish
this.
The fastest and simplest way to find a work item is the Go to Work Item tool. If
you know the ID number of the work item you are looking for, just enter it and you
are there. However, if you don't happen to know the ID number, or you need to
find multiple work items, you will need to use one of the more robust tools.
TeamLook's Quick Search is the perfect blend of power and convenience. It is
a keyword search function that is always accessible in the TeamLook tab of the ribbon
bar. On top of being quick, it is nearly infinitely customizable. You can set Quick
Search to scan the exact fields of your work items that you are desirous of searching.
The query is the most modifiable, most powerful, and most permanent search tool
in TeamLook. You can specify every element of its search parameter and then save
it when you are done. This way the query is more than just a search tool, it is
the backbone of your work item organization. Queries are the most robust search
tool, but also the most complex. In discussing the query we will learn how to create a new query, how to
customize the view of query results, and how to disseminate
queries via email.
You can make your query results even more powerful by implementing groups. These
groups help to organize your work items, making queries more powerful and your work
more efficient.
